“Limits to Growth, 30 Year Update”  by Donella & Dennis Meadows and Jorgen Randers

ub Earthscan Publications, pb 2004, ISBN 1844071448

The original LTG in 1972 was the wake-up call that pulled together the ecology movement and helped create the Green Party. Over the years many members have been drawn in by this powerful text. In 1993 a revised version called ‘Beyond the Limits’ was published, and in 2004 this 30 year update came out, now available in paperback.

If you haven’t read it before you really should catch it now, and if you know the original you will find the new edition much expanded and updated.
The scary thing is that nothing has changed. In 1972 the authors felt that there was time for society to evolve to meet the challenge of living on a finite planet – that option has now  gone; we are already well into overshoot and the options for a ‘soft landing’ are quite limited and frankly revolutionary. For one of the authors there is still room for some optimism, but time is running out and we may need to get a lot more radical in our politics.
An essential text for everyone in the Green movement.
